Deck and Fence Staining

tsb logo.png

Your deck and or fence is an expensive investment and can be an expensive loss of money if not protected from the elements and suns uv rays. The best way to protect your investment is by getting a high quality coating on it. While there are several options of coatings to choose from, we can help make it a bit easier.

Oil Based Stain

Oil based stain is a great option and is one of our most recommended coatings to apply. A high quality oil based stain will penetrate into the wood and preserve the wood from inside out. The pros of an oil based stain is that they look great, offer protection from deeper within the wood, will not peel and crack and is easier to maintain than water based products. The cons are that they tend to be slightly less durable than water based products which means more maintenance coats.

Water Based Stain

Water based stains can also be a great choice when protecting your investments. They penetrate into the wood more shallow than oil based stains but still offer protection. Pros of water based stains are that there are more color and transparency choices to choose from, and can be a little more durable than oil. The cons are that they can be more expensive to maintain because they tend to peel when they start to fail. When that happens the coating has to be stripped or sanded off before re coating costing more money to maintain.

Solid Stain

Solid stains are a great option for when you have a deck or fence that is to weathered to allow for a transparent or semi transparent stain, or when you already have a water based coating on the deck or fence and don't want to completely strip it off to restain. Solid stains resemble a paint in look and form a film similar to paint. There are a wide variety of colors to choose from with when choosing a solid stain. The cons of solid stains is that overtime when they begin to fail, they will peel but isn't as costly to maintain as a water based semi transparent stain.
